Officer Kevin Marples

Earlier today, two people contacted the police department after receiving a phone call from a phone number that appeared to be from the Boulder Police Department. The caller identified himself as Sergeant David Spraggs, who is an actual employee. In the first reported attempt the unidentified caller left a voicemail and requested a callback to a number that is not connected to the police department. The person realized this was a scam and contacted police. A recording of the voicemail message is attached. In the second reported attempt the victim answered the telephone and was told that they had a warrant for their arrest. The victim was scammed $2,000 in the form of gift cards.

Anyone who represents themselves as law enforcement and request a payment in lieu of a warrant, no matter what form, is a scammer. If you receive this type of call please make an online report athttps://bouldercolorado.gov/police/file-a-report-online or call 303-441-3333.
