On Wednesday August 19, 2020, The Boulder Police Department working with the US Marshals Service, arrested KELLEN DAVID STECKLER who had a warrant out of North Carolina for Felony: Incident Liberties with Child, Felony: Solicit Child by Computer and Felony: Disseminate Obscenity to Minor Under the Age of 13 Years. Detectives learned that Steckler had ties to Boulder and may be in the area. After he was located and taken into custody on the Felony warrants, Boulder Detectives executed several search warrants for his electronic devices. Steckler was lodged at the Boulder County Jail on the North Carolina charges. Steckler met with the courts and received a Personal Recognizance Bond and was release from the Jail.
Detectives from the Boulder Police Department and the District Attorneys Office assigned to the Boulder County Computer Forensics Lab executed a search warrants on the electronic devices recovered from STCKLER’S. These devices include several phones and a computer. During the analysis of the devices, Detectives located pictures and videos files in the gallery of the device that were identified as Child Sexual Exploitation Material.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Steckler on the new charges. He was taken into custody late last evening by detectives and charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Child (20+ Images) a class 4 Felony, Sexual Exploitation of a Child (1+ Video) also a class 4 Felony. The warrant was a No Bond warrant.
Given the serious nature of the crimes Steckler committed and the ongoing threat he posed to the community following his initial speedy release from jail Boulder Police Detectives, Detectives from the Boulder County Computer Forensics Lab, and the DA’s office worked closely together to re-arrest this sexual predator and keep him off the street of this community. Chief Herold noted “This is an example of the excellent work by the investigators of this department.”
