Almost simultaneously, Boulder police received two 9-1-1 calls for help in downtown Boulder. Thanks to the quick response and teamwork of Boulder Police Officers the suspect was quickly located and detained on numerous charges.

The first call for help came in yesterday, May 18, shortly after 10 a.m. A cyclist was assaulted by an unknown male while riding on the bike path near Broadway and Arapahoe Avenue. The suspect ran at the victim, kicked him off his bike, punched him in the head multiple times and then ran off. As officers responded to the area, a second call came in from Lazy J’s Smoke Shop, 1650 Arapahoe Ave., reporting that a man threw a rock at an employee seriously damaging their glass door.

The suspect attempted to run when located by police, but he was quickly and safely taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, Joshua Michael Menendez (date of birth 10/05/1992), was arrested for Menacing, Criminal Mischief, Obstructing a Peace Officer and two counts of 3rd Degree Assault.

The cyclist sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The estimated damaged to the glass door at Lazy J`s is $1,000.00.
